Fun Outside!

Lightning over Fort Collins... pretty cool shot to click on and enlarge (from Horsetooth Reservoir Bridge- the lit-up rectangle in the middle is the drive-in screen, which was showing the same intermission concession commercial like in the movie Grease when Travolta sings 'Sandy')

Freshly planted :) (the first time I have planted a bush by myself)

Serengeti in Colorado! :)

Well, I have not posted in a while... what have we been up to?... let's see... adventures at Serengeti Trek at Vacation Bible School last week were great! We had around 250 kiddos at Summitview and I was excited that two of my former students came! I was thankful to help with leading music in the opening and closing, and, boy, did the movements in the songs help me to get a lot of exercise! :) Ryan spent most of this past Friday through Sunday at the Heli Fun Fly at LoveAir in Ault. By the way, if you ever want to know a lot about what is going on with local remote controlled helicopters and airplanes info, check out www.modeleers.org, a site Ryan does a fantastic job of maintaining. :)

All Around Custer, SD :)

We spent a lot of our morning at Mount Rushmore today! We ate breakfast with the presidents (well, in view of them), and then explored the beautiful Presidential Trail, Sculptor's Studio, and the Lincoln Borglum Museum. Ryan and I were very curious about the unfinished Hall of Records behind Lincoln's head and asked if there was any way to go up there, but were told no. :) Our cool views of Rushmore continued down the pigtail-looped highway with three tunnels that beautifully framed the sculpture.
Custer State Park was absolutely gorgeous! We inquired about where to find buffalo roaming, and tried going down some dirt roads to hunt them down. Pronghorn and burros were spotted along the way, then lunch at the Blue Bell Lodge before exploring Needles Highway, which was green and lush with massive cool spires of granite.

Needles Highway... with Ryan high above it! :)

Sylvan Lake Lodge was a good opportunity to walk around the sparkling lake which had surprises in the granite rocks... waterfalls and stairs through them. The buffalo did come out for us on the side of the road...

...on the way back to Jewel Cave! Oh, yes, we went back today for the scenic tour, and descended over two hundred feet down to view exciting formations in the cave, which by the way, will probably be the second longest cave system in the world very soon as explorations continue! :) If you have a minute to view the formations in this cave, please go to http://www.nps.gov/jeca/geology.htm for cool pictures of what we saw. :)

Third Wedding Anniversary Weekend!

Mount Rushmore at night :)
Ryan and I are having an adventure together today! We enjoyed a beautiful drive through parts of Wyoming and South Dakota today before reaching Jewel Cave National Monument. With lanterns in hand, we experienced a tour with a very knowledgeable guide into the narrow passageways and steep staircases of the cave. Really cool! Then we caught the night showing of Mount Rushmore with a brief American History lesson reviewing the great contributions of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln to our nation before illuminating the magnificent carvings. We stayed and took pictures for a long time. Looking forward to going back in the morning to learn more about the process in sculpting this impressive sight! :)
